What does medical detox mean?
Detox is also called withdrawal management. Health Canada describes withdrawal management as supervised support during the initial period of stopping substance use. Its purpose is to help manage withdrawal and connect people with further treatment options.
The appropriate setting depends on the person. A website cannot determine whether a particular program is suitable for you; that requires a clinical assessment. Your questions, health needs and goals all belong in that conversation.
Start with assessment and a clear plan
Contact admissions before making travel arrangements. Ask how the assessment works, who you will speak with and what information the team needs. You can begin with a simple explanation: “I am looking for help with substance use and would like to understand the next step.”
Useful questions include:
- Is this program appropriate for my needs?
- What must happen before admission can be confirmed?
- What care can be provided here, and when would a different setting be needed?
- How will the expected length of stay be discussed?
An enquiry does not reserve a bed or confirm admission. Ask the team to explain availability and the next step before you make plans.
Ask what “24-hour support” includes
At Metamorphosis Centre for Change in Delhi, Ontario, the private inpatient detox service includes 24-hour nursing support and an on-call physician. Ask admissions to explain how nursing care and physician consultations work during a stay.
Be specific when comparing programs: who is present overnight, how can a person raise a concern, and what happens if their needs change? These questions help you understand the care available beyond a general description on a website.
Understand the room and fee arrangements
Metamorphosis offers private and semi-private accommodation. Ask which room options are available and request the current information package for the option you are considering. You can also view photos of the facility.
The detox fee includes medical intake, accommodation and meals, nursing care, physician consultations and detox comfort medications. Other medications outside the detox medication plan are not included. Optional registered massage therapy and Reiki are provided by third parties and carry additional fees.

Discuss what happens after detox
Withdrawal management is one part of care. Health Canada emphasizes the importance of connecting with ongoing mental health and substance use services afterward. Ask about that next stage early, including what support may fit your needs and how a transition would be arranged.
You can explore Metamorphosis Centre for Change’s main website for information about its broader treatment services. Further treatment requires its own discussion about suitability, availability and cost.
Bring your questions to admissions
You do not need to make every decision before making contact. Start by asking what an assessment involves and what you should have ready. A family member can help you organize questions; ask admissions how they can participate.
